Writing a personal ad is no
rocket science, nonetheless it is a fact that some people receive hundreds of
responses whilst others none at all. Usually the problem lies not in the person
but in the wording of the ad and finding the right balance between lack of
information and too much information. Here are a few tips on how to write a
welcoming personal ad for men:
Honesty is the best policy.
Lying about yourself is a recipe for disaster, you may think you’re amusing
yourself and others but its wrong, hurtful, always backfires and reduces the
likelihood of finding a partner to zero. Don’t hide who you are (divorced, kids
etc) otherwise you may loose out on finding the right person for you.
Anyway how would you feel if someone was lying to you?
Stand out. Be original,
how many times have you seen ad which all look like they have been written by
the same person, you are in competition and need to grab attention. Check out
the competition and see what grabs your attention, don’t copy it but use the
essence of it to make it your own. Humour works, but only if you have it.
Say what you want. You
know who you are, what you’re about and what you want - so share it. Hobbies,
interests, values are worth a mention; it’s a good way of finding someone who
can appreciate them and may even share the same ones.
Don’t let little spelling
mistakes ruin your chances after putting in so much effort in the construction
of the ad. Use a dictionary if needed.
